The sublime vermilion-hued idol of Lord Ganesha was originally discovered buried within the ancestral lands of the esteemed Raut lineage, where it was subsequently consecrated on that precise, hallowed ground.
An enchanting local folklore shrouds the origin of the shrine: a young Koli boy named Mukhari ventured out into the treacherous Arabian Sea for a fishing expedition but failed to return for two agonizing days. Distraught and filled with profound anxiety, his parents made a solemn, sacred vow to this Ganesha idol—which was then exposed to the elements without a formal shelter. They pledged that if their beloved son returned safely to the shore, they would erect a sanctified structure and formally consecrate the deity. Upon the boy’s miraculous and safe return, the overjoyed parents swiftly fulfilled their oath by constructing a modest shrine. Consequently, the benevolent deity has been affectionately revered as Mukhari Ganpati ever since.

Upon entering the serene temple precincts, visitors are greeted by a tranquil, traditional water reservoir (known locally as a *pokharani*) situated to the left. Erected directly in front of the main entrance stands an exquisitely crafted, majestic *Deepmal* (a monumental stone lamp tower), which serves as a spectacular visual anchor during nocturnal festivities.
The temple architecture opens into an expansive, airy courtyard that guides pilgrims towards the core structure. The inner sanctum is meticulously segregated into two distinct chambers: the grand *Sabhamandap* (the assembly hall designed for congregational gatherings) and the intimate *Gabhara* (the sanctum sanctorum).
